We thought making the Top 100 Wines list of 2014 was an honor. And the praise keeps coming! Of the 269 new-release American Zinfandels blind-tasted by the Wine & Spirits Magazine panels in the past year, 28 were picked for this list. Of those 28 wines, both our 2011 Nance's Vineyard Zinfandel and our soon-to-be-released 2012 Nance's Vineyard Zinfandel were selected for the Year's Best US Zinfandel list in the February 2015 issue.
In Alder Yarrow's weekly "Vinography Unboxed" blog feature, he refers to all three Ousterhout Pinot Noir Rosé wines as "light, crisp, and delicious." He says, "at $25 a pop, you can't go wrong with Ousterhout." On the blog, Yarrow scores Ousterhout wines 9-9.5 on a scale of 1-10 (from dismal to absolutely delicious).

In the cover story of the 2015 February issue of Wine & Spirits Magazine, "Can Young Vines Grow Great Zin?", West Coast Editor-in-Chief Luke Sykora shares his very favorable thoughts on young-vine Zinfandel. Old Zinfandel vines (approximately 30-40+ years old) are known for producing wines of better quality and complexity than young vines, but this article proves that theory wrong. Nance's Vineyard was planted in 1999, and the Ousterhout 2011 Nance's Vineyard Zinfandel—as well as the 2012, which will be released Spring 2015—are described in this article as "magnificent".
"[The] 2011 and 2012 Ousterhout Nance's Vineyard Zinfandel are magnificent: energetic wines that feel pristine and silky rather than heavy handed, lasting on fresh red fruit. They're the kind of zinfandels that could change many a jaded sommelier's mind about the potential of the grape to produce balanced and even transparent wines." - p. 30

In this article that appears on the wine website Snooth.com, Christy Canterbury, MW lists wines that she strongly encourages everyone to try (and drink often) in 2015. (This is definitely our idea of a new year's resolution!) We're thrilled that the Ousterhout Wine Grist Vineyard Zinfandel is the only American wine to make the list! California Zinfandel has come a long way, and we're excited about producing this intensely flavored yet balanced wine from the Grist Vineyard atop Bradford Mountain in Sonoma's Dry Creek Valley. In the Winter 2014 issue of Wine & Spirits Magazine, the 2011 Ousterhout Nance's Vineyard Zinfandel was selected as one of the Best Zinfandels of the Year!
In the past year, W&S blind tasting panels assessed more than 14,600 wines. Of those wines, the magazine made recommendations for 4,200 wines. And selected 100 wines that stood out among them. This issue, on newsstands now, includes a list of the Top 100 wines. We are truly thrilled that our Estate Zinfandel made this list.
We only made 545 cases of this gorgeous Zinfandel and it's selling quickly. Place your order now, it will be a great wine to have on hand for the holidays!
Emily Martin, the Jetsetting Fashionista, reviewed an event that we recently participated in on her blog. The event was a 4-course luncheon at the Elite Café in San Francisco, which was part of the Fillmore Wine and Food Festival. This was a fantastic three-day festival on Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights to celebrate fine wine and food; the proceeds went to local charity, The Ronald McDonald House.

The tasting critics at Wine & Spirits Magazine awarded our 2011 Nance's Vineyard Estate Zinfandel 95 points. It is featured in the September issue as a "Best Buy". Don't delay in ordering this wine.
Review: The vines that grew this supremely elegant wine were planted in 1999 on the red volcanic loam of a hillside and bench land vineyard in the southeast corner of Alexander Valley. Douglas and Nancy Ousterhout purchased the vineyard in 2009 and hired a pinot noir winemaker, Micah Wirth of Joseph Jewell, to create this silky, delicate zin. It's as bright as a red cherry fresh off the tree, feeling almost weightless on the palate. As the wine takes on air, the tannins provide an edgy minerality that focuses and amplifies the fruit into a sunny, ruby-red laser beam. Beautiful now, this has the kind of effortless balance that will benefit from cellaring.
